Mayor’s Cup vs BB&N, Saturday April 12

Regatta

Good morning, CRLS Crew families –
Here are your updates for the week.
MAYOR’S CUP
The varsity racing season kicks off this Saturday, April 12 with the Mayor’s Cup. Racing vs. BBN will happen in the Powerhouse Stretch. If you’re new to the team, the Powerhouse is the straight section of the river between the Weeks footbridge and Magazine Beach. The course runs downstream (towards BU) and the best places to watch are from the River St. and Western Ave. bridges, or at Magazine Beach, between the river and the DCR pool. Racing is expected to start at 10:00am and will likely be over by 12:00pm.  The exact order of the events is TBD; I will push out the schedule as soon as I get confirmation from the coaches.  Athletes should check in with their coaches for lineups and arrival times at the boathouse.  Novices are welcome to watch but are not required to attend.
As the Mayor’s Cup is a small, local event, we will only have snacks (think fruit and donuts) available post-racing.  Please make sure your rower has a good meal before they arrive at the boathouse.
UNISUITS

Distribution of racing unis is almost complete; the novice girls are getting theirs very soon!

A few notes about the unisuits:

  • Unis should be washed on gentle and line dried.  NEVER NEVER NEVER put a unisuit in the dryer; they will shrink and thin out. Always hang them to dry! They are spandex and will dry quickly!
  • All athletes should wear undergarments under their unis, especially if they are borrowing a team uni or plan to donate theirs at the end of the season. The CRLS Athletic Department requires athletes borrowing anything spandex to wear undergarments.
  • If your athlete purchased their own uni, we recommend that they label it so that it does not get lost. Metallic Sharpies work well.
  • If your athlete has left the team but did not return their uni, you should receive a direct message from parent board member Melissa about how to return the uni.  We have a limited number of unis and a large team, so thanks for getting them back to us!
SCHOOL VACATION
Currently, teams will be practicing at their regular scheduled practice time. Any changes to those times will be communicated directly to the athletes by the coaches. There is a race on Saturday, April 26, which is the last weekend of the break.  If your rower will not be in town that weekend, they should tell their coach ASAP!

SPRING FUNDRAISER

As a reminder, we are hoping to raise $5K to kick off our spring regatta operations.  Please see the attached flyer and give if you are able!  You can send checks to FOCA, or use their Venmo (below).  Please be sure to note that your donation is for CRLS Crew.

END OF SEASON BBQ – SAVE THE DATE

Our team BBQ will be held on Saturday, May 31, 2025.  Details to come, but please hold 11:00am – 2:00pm-ish for our end of season celebration.

Questions? Please feel free to reach out.

Best,
Courtney
