CRLS Crew Boys regatta coaches message and results from Wed 4/22

Boys Varsity, Novice, Results

Hi, CRLS Families,

The team hosted a great day of racing yesterday, focused on the athletes who have the fewest racing opportunities during the spring season, particularly the novices.

Teams from Brooks School in North Andover and Belmont Hill just upstream from us came for the afternoon regatta on the Charles. Both schools have very strong programs at the varsity level.

All of the CRLS boys crews performed very well, with the first novice 4+ winning decisively by 8 seconds and the 5V edging out Belmont Hill. In both races, Brooks was well behind.

The second novice 4+ race was close from the first stroke to the last, which is the very best kind of racing, though Belmont Hill won by about one second. The third novice 4 rowed well all the way down the course, but Belmont Hill was faster in that event.

Prior to the CRLS-Brooks-Belmont Hill races, the boys 1V rowed a rescheduled race against BB&N for the Mayor’s Cup (the Cambridge championship). Our 1V defeated BB&N by 22 seconds, an enormous margin in high school varsity rowing.

Thank you as always for your support of your student athletes and your support of CRLS rowing. We have a team of committed, hard-working athletes from the development novices to the 1V, and it shows every day in practice and now in races, too.

We are seeing personal qualities like responsibility, attention, teamwork, and good sportsmanship throughout the squad.

Next up for the 1-5V is a race with Middlesex, Northfield Mt. Herman and Brooks in North Andover this Saturday afternoon.
