There is a race this Saturday, May 2nd, Varsity vs Groton@ Groton. All athletes should know if they are competing. This is listed as a varsity event but there will be some novice teammates. Race map and schedule are below.
Weather Update: It looks like rain for most of the day. Send your child with a garbage bag for them to keep their clothes and gear dry. This may help keep ticks off as well. Remember to have them do a tick check when they get home tonight.
Buses will leave CBC at 11am. Athletes should be at CBC no later than 9:30am to load the trailer. As a reminder, all athletes travel to and from races on the bus with the team. Athletes are expected to unload the trailer and re-rig boats upon their return to CBC and won’t be dismissed until all equipment is put away.
We are looking into having catered sandwiches prepared for this weekend’s race. Athletes can grab them as they are departing from CBC on Saturday morning and eat them on the bus or save for later, depending on their race schedule. On site we will have a snack tent with fresh fruit, chips, granola bars, etc. If this menu does not work for your athlete, they should plan to bring other food with them.
All athletes should bring a full water bottle. There will be a water bottle filler at the site.
There are lots of ticks at this location! We will lay down tarps for the kids to sit on and ask them to do tick-checks after the race but they will need to do them again. They can bring bug spray. Here are some suggestions on how to avoid ticks.
Volunteer opportunities:
1 person with a Costco membership who can shop for snack food. (We will provide a detailed list and promptly reimburse you via Venmo.)
1 person who can pick up the sandwiches from S&S in Inman Square on Saturday morning and deliver to CBC by 10:30am.
If you are interested in helping out with any of the above for the 5/2 race at Groton, please contact Carroll Magill (parent to girls varsity rower Imogen Wu) at carrollmagill@gmail.com or via text at 917-687-9107. Thanks!
If you plan on attending as a spectator;
Attached is an annotated map of the area.
The address is 282 Farmers Row, Groton, MA 01450 . According to GPS, this takes about an hour to drive there.
The boathouse and docks are located some distance from the parking area, so be prepared to walk. There is no parking at the boathouse. Below is info from Groton;
“access the Bingham Boathouse, which is right on the Groton campus, by driving around behind the hockey rinks, parking there and walking the ½ mile down the dirt road to the river. There is very limited parking at the boathouse, most of it will be needed for the visiting team’s shells. It is all right to drop off spectators at the boathouse.
The other option is to watch from near the finish line. Drive past the School on Rt. 111 (Farmers Row) and turn left on Rt. 225. Continue until you cross the river on a small bridge. On the bridge you will be able to see the boats coming at you for the last 250 meters of the race.” (you may be able to find parking on the nearby streets)
Feel free to email me if you need a ride to the race, I will send out a request to the families. Please include the neighborhood you are in. It may be helpful for those who might offer.
Results will be posted the next day on Row2k
Hope to see many of you this Saturday.
Thanks, Shannon
